Tampere, Finland, 14 October 2026—Marginum Ltd, a Finnish medical technology company specialising in fluorescence-based tissue monitoring systems, announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted a patent covering key aspects of the fluorescence detection technology underlying its HIVEN® device.
The patent, titled “Apparatus and Method for Detecting Fluorescence“, strengthens Marginum’s international intellectual property portfolio and provides important protection for its technology in the United States, the world’s largest medical technology market and an important focus of the company’s international growth strategy.
HIVEN® is a CE-marked medical device intended for tissue fluorescence detection during fluorescence-guided surgical procedures for suspected high-grade gliomas in which 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is used. The system supports neurosurgeons by providing intraoperative fluorescence information through seamless integration into existing surgical workflows.

HIVEN® received CE marking under the European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) in October 2025. The device has not yet received U.S. FDA marketing authorisation, and its De Novo application remains under review.
